A Visual of earth from the satellite below ! Stayed in a caravan park for 3 days to catch up on cleaning ,washing and showers!! Only 890 odd kms from Perth! Off a 100 kms down the road to camp near the beach !! I wonder how much the wind is blowing !! Swooooooooosh!!
Greg went and visited the Satellite Station here in Carnarvon and tho not operating any longer was full of history and information !! There is the tracking station and the OTC Satellite EarthStation! The station was built to support NASA’S Gemini, Apollo and Skylab programmes! It was commissioned in 1964 and operated for 11 years!
Above picture is of gases burning on Saturn !

Month: October 2017
Ningaloo Reef “Cape Range National Park”
These turtles were huge and we were told about this secret spot were the turtles mate and cruise around !
The shark below came cruising through the water edge just after a family we were with got out of the water after swimming near the turtles! We think it was a tiger shark ! The next day Greg and I were back at the other bay snorkelling and feeling a bit nervous !!!
Camped amongst the sand dunes !! This national park has numerous spots to camp, all different areas along the WA coastline! You have to be self contained to stay here tho they do have long drop toilets at each camp!! We didn’t fish here but lots of people did ! We’re concentrated on doing drift snorkels every day numerous times at Turquoise Bay which had the most clear amazing water ! The colour gosh!! Over the Ningaloo Reef which we thought was even better than the Great Barrier Reef experience we had some years ago !! At times we also experienced the WA wind and it was a pain but the surroundings eased the frustration!!
THe amount of tropical fish was mind blowing and I really wish I had had a Go Pro.
We’re in the middle!
October! Ballara Station
It was great to finally arrive somewhere which wasn’t soooo windy, as we had just left 40 Mile Beach were we had put up with up to 45 knot winds over 5 days! One night I was literally rocked off to sleep, no luck fishing but saw some beautiful stingrays on the water edge, when they took off you saw a beautiful orange under their bodies and bluish/gray on the rest of their bodies , soooo little and cute!!
Spending time on the station was magical ! Lots of birds, pet kangaroos, cattle milling around in the paddocks and also damper night!! Everyone was very friendly and it was great to be able to have the open fire!! One of Greg’s favourite hobbies!
The old shearing shears incorporated showers and toilets! The station was approximately 350,000 acres!!
Karratha
The city of Karratha is situated on the Pilbara coast, with a population of 25,000 spread over its surrounding areas ! Wood side just out of Karratha on the coastline is one of the largest oil and gas developments! It accounts for more than 1/3 of Australia’s oil and gas productions! It exports also to the Asia Pacfic region!!

Port Headland
It takes 3tugs to bring in each ship in that sits out at sea waiting for their turn!
This place is a very industrial town which has a natural deep anchorage harbour which, as well as being the main fuel and container receiver point for the region was seen as the perfect shipment region for the Iron Ore that’s mined in the ranges inland from the town !! Iron Ore is moved by railway from four major deposits located south and east of Port Headland into the harbour and loaded into huge ships that sit out at sea waiting their turn to be loaded! Some of these ship are from Russia,China and surrounding countries!!
An over night stop !!
Greg loves his fires!! Camped right on the river amongst the trees on our way to Port Headland!
Pardoo Station
It’s very common for stations to now supplement their income on these big farms , usually it’s over the winter months approximately from April to the end of October! For us this was just a over night stay but I found watching the calves being feed just delightful!
Eighty mile Beach!!!
This beach was just over the sand dunes from our camp !! You couldn’t swim because of the sharks that trawl up and down the coastline and besides when the tide came in it was still only waist deep if that!! We were lucky enough to catch two sea salmon!! The real core fisherman camp here for 4 months over winter and stock their freezers before heading back home!
